Soon liquid containers of over 100 ml in hand baggage possible
The airport company Finavia is making the hand baggage security control easier at Helsinki Airport. This summer, the old security control equipment will be replaced with next-generation technology. This replacement will make it possible to carry also liquid containers of over 100 ml in hand baggage.
Finavia already introduced new security checks some time ago, where liquids and electronic devices no longer have to be removed from hand luggage for the check.
“This is a significant step forward since the worldwide adoption of the EU liquid regulations in 2006. We are at the forefront of security control development as similar new technology is currently used only at a very limited number of major European airports and at some airports in the United States", says Ari Kumara, Vice President - Security at Finavia.
The new procedure only applies to passengers departing from Helsinki. The liquid restrictions will continue to apply to passengers departing from Finavia’s regional airports and transfer passengers coming to Helsinki Airport from outside the EU.
As both the old and the new technology will be in use for the time being, passengers are advised to follow the current hand luggage regulations, which can be found on the Finavia website.
