Stockholm ports count twice as many cruise ship calls

When the cruise season ends in October with the departure of the AIDADiva, a total of 205 cruise ships will have called at Stockholm's ports - twice as many as in the previous year.

In the 2022 season, 205 cruise ships brought around 247,000 passengers to Stockholm's ports. This is double the previous year, both in terms of the number of cruise ship calls and passenger numbers. Stockholm is a popular cruise destination.

“Stockholm is very popular, and due to the current situation many cruise ships have chosen to stay extra days in Stockholm. The cruise passengers are very important to Stockholm financially, and generate over 1,000 jobs in the region,” says Ports of Stockholm CEO, Thomas Andersson.

18 cruise ships made their first stop in Stockholm this season, including the Ambassador Cruise Line. A brand new cruise quay ensures that the ships can now be supplied with shore power. It is estimated that at least 45 per cent of cruise ship calls can be supplied with shore power at the quay by 2023 or 2024, resulting in a significant reduction of air pollutant emissions in Stockholm and the Baltic Sea region.
