Scandic opens two Scandic Go Hotels in Gothenburg und Umeå in 2026

Scandic has announced the opening of two new Scandic Go Hotels in the heart of Gothenburg and Umeå. These hotels, offering a combined total of 276 rooms, are set to open in 2026. With this addition, Scandic Go will have five hotels currently in development, comprising 876 rooms across Sweden and Finland.

Since its debut in September 2023, Scandic Go has gained popularity among guests and owners and could attract new partners. Now, Scandic plans to add 176 rooms to the Lilla Bommen neighborhood in Gothenburg by transforming current office space into a Scandic Go Hotel.

A conversion is planned for an office building in Umeå into a Scandic Go Hotel featuring 100 rooms. The conversion is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2025, with the hotel anticipated to open in the first half of 2026.

The increasing demand for hotels, along with the lengthy lead times for new construction, offers a strategic opportunity for Scandic. By repurposing existing office space and other properties, Scandic can quickly expand its new economy brand. The property owner will handle the conversion, enabling the landlord to engage in additional commercial activities within the building, alongside hotel operations.

Scandic Go Hotels
The first hotel that has already opened is Scandic Go, Upplandsgatan 4 in Stockholm. The second hotel in Stockholm is already bookable and the four other hotels in the pipeline will open in Oulu in 2025, Gothenburg and Umeå in 2026 and Helsinki in 2028.
