Shipyard Brødrene Aa in Norway builds autonomous ferry for Stockholm

The Norwegian shipyard Brødrene Aa is currently building a ferry that runs completely autonomously. This first commercial ferry will be deployed in Stockholm in 2023.

The electric catamaran has room for 25 passengers and will be operated electrically for 15 hours a day. It will operate on the route between Kungsholmen and Søder Mellarstrand. Initially, a captain will accompany the ferry; after successful repairs, the ferry can be steered from the control room on land.

An autonomous ferry already operates in Trondheim. The one in Stockholm is a world first because it is being used commercially for the first time. Norway is a leader in the development of autonomous ships.
