Flight service between Helsinki - Tampere and Helsinki - Turku to be discontinued
As of 01 May, Finnair will cease operations on the domestic routes - Helsinki-Tampere and Helsinki-Turku. The airline will replace the service between Helsinki and the cities of Turku and Tampere with a bus connection.
As the flights are relatively short, with a flight time of 25 minutes, and have low passenger loads of around 35%, these routes are measured to have higher CO2 emissions per passenger than many other short flights. Finnair sees road or rail transport as a more sustainable option for connections between Helsinki Airport and these cities.
Finnair will offer four bus connections per day between the central bus stations of Turku / Tampere and Helsinki Airport in the summer of 2023. The bus connections can be booked together with the connecting flight. With the bus connection included in the booking, Finnair guarantees the connection even if the bus or flight is delayed. Priority check-in, baggage drop-off and security checks is also included.
