Norwegian shipping company Norled operates the world's first hydrogen-powered ferry

On 31 March, the world's first ferry sailing on liquid hydrogen set sail from Hjelmeland. It operates between Hjelmeland and Nesvik in Norway. The MF Hydra is a new symbol of great technological development.

Liquid hydrogen as a fuel has so far only been known from the aerospace industry for rocket launches. The Norwegian shipping company Norled has been carrying out system tests at the quay in Hjelmeland since the turn of the year. In recent weeks, there have been sea trials. The final approvals from the Norwegian Maritime Directorate have already been received. The MF Hydra is ready for deployment.
