CopenPay: Copenhagen rewards sustainable tourism
A new tourism initiative called CopenPay, initiated by the tourism organisation Wonderful Copenhagen, was launched in Copenhagen on 15 July. The aim is to motivate visitors to the city to adopt sustainable behaviour. Participating attractions reward climate-friendly actions such as travelling by bike or public transport during the high season with discounts, free activities and guided tours or even an invitation to a coffee.
How does CopenPay reward sustainable initiatives?
The pilot project runs until 11 August and includes more than 20 attractions, including well-known places such as CopenHill, the National Museum and the Copenhagen Surf School. To receive a reward, all you need to do is show proof of a sustainable method of travelling or active engagement such as litter collection.
Background studies show a discrepancy between the desire for sustainability and actual action. With CopenPay, Wonderful Copenhagen aims to bridge this gap and encourage visitors to make conscious ‘green’ choices.
