City of Savonlinna has signed agreement for charter flights from Rotterdam in the summer

Dutch tour operator Voight Travel agreed with Business Finland and the City of Savonlinna in Eastern Finland on charter flights from Rotterdam to Savonlinna in the summer.

Voigt Travel, the largest Nordic holiday tour operator in the Netherlands, will launch the first three-way flights between Rotterdam - Savonlinna - Rovaniemi in June 2023. A 149-seat Transavia aircraft will be used on 7 June, 14 June and 21 June 2023. Voigt Travel is meant to increase the number of flights in the coming years.

The cooperation with the Dutch Voigt Travel opens up new opportunities for the development of international tourism in the whole Saimaa region.

"Visit Finland, which is part of Business Finland, and Savonlinna Region Tourism are to be particularly thanked for the agreement. Direct charter flights from Central Europe to Savonlinna are a significant step forward in strengthening tourism in the entire Saimaa region and improving accessibility to Savonlinna. This will create conditions for the year-round development of tourism, a more diversified internationalisation of tourism and also for the launch of new investments," says Mayor Janne Laine.

The city's contribution to the marketing cooperation is EUR 46 000. Visit Finland will also invest significantly in marketing cooperation in addition to the City of Savonlinna.

"Finland now has the opportunity to repeat the success of the winter season also in the summer season and to significantly increase tourism from Central Europe through direct connections. Savonlinna is an ideal destination because of its good location, with customers having easy access to the wide range of offers in the entire Saimaa region. In Western Europe, the majority of holiday trips take place between May and September, and in our country only part of that time is the high season, so the new connections will also bring a welcome extension to the season. Customers arriving on charter flights will also need more services. This will increase opportunities for new business development," says Jyrki Oksanen, Visit Finland's Central Europe Market Manager.
