Festningshotellene AS wants to convert Oscarsborg Fortress into historic hotel

For the Oscarsborg fortress outside Oslo, a feasibility study is available on how the fortress can be turned into a historic hotel. The Festningshotellene AS foundation, which already operates 14 historic buildings as hotels, sees the best protection in the use of the fortification.

The conditions for the conversion of Oscarsborg are high, because the fortress is a listed building. Development must respect the listed building stock and technical interventions in the building are prohibited. Oscarsborg is located on an island in the Oslo Fjord, which favours the need for security and discretion.

The accommodation in the main fortress is intended to underline the historical use and incorporate Norwegian war history, cultural history and, of course, tourism.

Festningshotellene wants to work closely with Innovation Norway as well as technology providers, the defence sector and both municipal and state authorities. In the summer, opera performances take place at the fortress, so Oscarsborg will continue to be open to the public.
