VR takes over train services in northern Sweden
VR Sverige AB as part of the Finnish state railway group VR will take over train services in northern Sweden for ten years. The so-called Norrtågstrafiken covers the routes in Västernorrland, Jämtland, Västerbotten and Norrbotten.
The Finnish VR Group already operates routes in Skåne and Östergötland.
The route network is currently operated by the Norwegian railway operator Vy Tåg. Not only the Norrtågstrafiken will no longer be served by Vy Tåg. Also the night trains in northern Sweden will change operator. The night train connection will be taken over by SJ again - at least for one year.
