The gold train on the Raumabanen in Norway is making a comeback

In 2014, the tourist trains on the Raumabanen from Åndalsnes to Bjorli were discontinued. This summer, Norwegian Travel is bringing the Gold Train back to life, operated by the Norwegian railway company TM Togdrift. The first Golden Train is scheduled to run again at the end of July.

The Golden Train owes its name to the transport of the 50-ton Norwegian gold reserves, which were transported via the Raumabanen from Oslo to Åndalsnes for shipment to England and Canada during the German invasion of Norway in 1940. The event was filmed last year in the Norwegian film "Gulltransporten". Passengers on the tourist train are given detailed information about it during the journey.

Lonely Planet chose the route as the "most scenic train journey in Europe" because it offers breathtaking nature, varied landscapes and vivid stories.
