Helsinki Airport terminal wins Wood Award

The wooden ceiling at Helsinki Airport's new terminal won Puuinfo's Wood Award 2022. The ceiling is made of spruce wood and creates a relaxed atmosphere in the hustle and bustle of the airport.

The terminal extension was completed in December 2021. For Finavia, the airport is the ideal place to showcase Finnish architecture and design.

The ceiling is made of 500 individual pieces of Finnish spruce. The elements are strung together like a jigsaw puzzle. The shape of the ceiling should not change over time. In addition to the undulating shape, the vertical variation that mimics the contour lines also makes for an interesting appearance of the soundboard.
