Bothnian Coastal Route Marketplace 2024

Two countries, six destinations and three digital events in autumn 2024:  Bothnian Coastal Route invites organisers to a series of events in October and November 2024

Directly to the registration

Three-part online event series for travel industry professionals

Webinar, virtual fam trip and sales workshop

As part of our cooperation with our partners in the Bothnian Coastal Route project, we are organizing three online events for you this autumn to provide you with inspiration and information to launch new trips to the region or add to existing products. While it's getting less cosy outside and the temperatures are dropping, you can take part in our digital events with a hot cup of coffee directly from your workplace. The special thing about this event series is that it will take place for the first time via our new NordicCommunity platform.

Registration is possible from 10.10.2024 on.

How do the events differ?

The focus of the first event is the presentation of the destinations within the Bothnian Coastal Route. Following the webinar, there will be an opportunity for an interactive exchange via chat or video link during the Q&A session.

The second event is a classic virtual fam trip, where you can get a direct insight into the products along the Bothnian Coastal Route from selected providers. Once again, there will be an opportunity to ask questions at the end. The suppliers will be there live.

You can organize the third event according to your own requirements. Like our NORDEUROPA event, it is an online sales workshop where you can arrange meetings with the Finnish and Swedish companies on the Bothnian Coastal Route every 20 minutes (15 minutes + 5-minute break). The workshop is planned as a one-day event. More details will follow shortly.

How does registration work?

If you are interested in participating in the Bothnian Coastal Route Marketplace, we look forward to your registration on our new NordicCommunity platform. After your registration we will activate you manually. You will then automatically receive an e-mail confirming your activation. After logging in, you can register for one or more events in our Bothnian Coastal Route event series with just one click.

Bothnian Coastal Route - Umea © Fredrik Larsson

Umeå is young, creative, progressive and, with 133,000 inhabitants, the largest city in northern Sweden. More than 37,000 students give the university city a youthful and international flair. Umeå's cultural offerings range from Sami traditions and the world's northernmost opera house to interesting museums and delicious gastronomic surprises.

The majestic river Umeälven flows through the city like a deep blue, life-giving vein. The city is surrounded by unspoilt nature, dense forests, six rivers and the surging sea. Umeå is also known as the city of birches, because of the 3000 birch trees in the city centre.

It is a vibrant small town with local city life, nestled in extensive pine and spruce forests, parts of which have been used as winter pasture for the Sami reindeer for centuries. Skellefteå has the longest coastline in the country with natural small beaches and harbours along the coast.

Bothnian Coastal Route Pitea Lighthouse

This pretty little town attracts visitors from all over the world. Piteå is a bustling tourist town bursting with hospitality and charm. Along the 300 kilometres of coastline, the long sandy beaches of Pite Havsbad, the shimmering archipelago, the picturesque hiking trails, nice cafés for a Swedish fika and the old church town of Öjebyn all beckon. Here you can enjoy the tranquillity of the forest, experience adventures on the River Pite, go on an icebreaker tour in winter and experience events and activities.

Bothnian Coastal Route Lulea

The city of Luleå has 80,000 inhabitants and the city centre is located on a peninsula where the wide River Lule meets the Bay of Bothnia and the coast and sea are ever-present.

As a contrast to the modern city centre of Luleå, you can take a stroll in the historic church town of Gammelstad, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and in the old town of Luleå. In winter, you can go pedal sledging or ice skating on the frozen sea on the 10 km long ice rink around the town. Luleå has direct access to the brackish water archipelago with over 1300 islands, two rivers and extensive forest areas and experiences a seasonal contrast of snow, ice and a frozen sea in winter to sunshine, warmth, uncrowded beaches and 24-hour daylight in summer.

With only 10 minutes to the regional, easily accessible Luleå Airport and a compact city centre surrounded by water, everything is close at hand.

Bothnian Coastal Route Kalix © Oliver Astrom

Where the beauty of nature meets exciting adventures. With unspoilt beaches, a fascinating archipelago and a mysterious underground fortress, it is a paradise in the north. Try the exquisite caviar from Kalix Löjrom, a delicacy with a protected designation of origin, which you can savour at exclusive events and restaurants.

In summer, you can go on archipelago tours, go fishing or canoeing on the unspoilt Kalix River and choose unique accommodation. In winter, Kalix turns into a wonderland for snowmobile rides, dog sledding and Northern Lights safaris. You can plunge into the cold water on an icebreaker tour. Kalix is a world of flavours, thrills and extraordinary experiences where the river meets the sea.

Bothnian Coastal Route HaparandaTornio

The Swedish town of Haparanda and the Finnish town of Tornio form a twin town at the head of the Bay of Bothnia, where the mighty Torne River meets the sea. The archipelago offers uninterrupted experiences, with endless sandy beaches, two national parks and activities on the frozen sea. HaparandaTornio is a historic trading centre and still known as a place of commerce and shopping, with the world's northernmost IKEA and a shopping centre on the border. Three languages, three cultures, two time zones and two currencies meet in HaparandaTornio. These are real cross-border experiences!

Bothnian Coastal Route Kemi Autumn

Kemi has a unique location both by the sea and in Finnish Lapland. In winter, the sea freezes over, creating a unique place with activities for visitors and locals alike.

Kemi is best known for its cruises on the icebreaker Sampo. This legendary icebreaker has been in operation since 1960 and offers visitors a unique experience. The SnowCastle in Kemi offers a snow and ice exhibition all year round. Over the years, the SnowCastle concept has evolved from a winter snow castle to a resort with various services all year round.

Spend the night by the sea, watch the sky from your bed and be one with nature.

Bothnian Coastal Route Kalajoki

Kalajoki is a unique holiday resort on the Arctic coast of the Bay of Bothnia. Kalajoki is best known for its sand dunes, long sandy beaches and unforgettable sunsets, but it has much more to offer. The frozen seashore in winter opens up a completely different landscape and an exotic backdrop for adventure. The old town of Plassi takes visitors back to the old days of coastal trade.

Maakalla Island is one of the most popular attractions in Kalajoki. It is characterised not only by its landscape, but also by its unique autonomous status. The island is governed by its own fishing community, based on the ‘Hamina Order’ issued by King Adolf Fredrik in 1771, when Finland was still part of Sweden.

Bothnian Coastal Route Vaasa

The Vaasa region has gradually risen from the sea over the millennia. Today, the region offers its visitors a breath of fresh air, an enchanting landscape, modern technology and international trends, mixed with local Ostrobothnian culture and tradition.

In the UNESCO World Heritage area of Kvarken with its 5600 islands, it sometimes feels as if the sea and the sky have merged and you can no longer tell where one ends and the other begins.

Admire nature at its best and let your mind wander.
