Nordic countries dominate the top ten rankings once again

Finland tops the World Happiness Report for the sixth year in a row and is once again the "Happiest Country in the World". Denmark and Iceland follow in second and third place, as they did last year. Sweden and Norway are also in the top 10 and can even climb up the rankings. Sweden improves from 7th place last year to 6th place, Norway leaves the 8th place and is placed on the 7th position now.

The year 2022 was a year of crises by any measure, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, global inflation and a number of local and global climate crises. The main analysis in the World Happiness Report relates to happiness as measured by life assessments and emotions, and how these have developed in crisis situations.

For the World Happiness Report, factors such as health, quality of life, social support, absence of corruption and personal freedom are analysed.

Switzerland leads the German-speaking countries in 8th place (4th place last year), Austria remains in 11th place and Germany slips down two places to 16th place (14th place last year).
