Popular destinations and preferences of Swiss travellers in 2023

For 72% of the Swiss, the polar lights and dog sledding in the far north are at the top of the travel wish list. City breaks in world metropolises and a dip in the hot springs of Iceland (63%) are also in high demand. Interestingly, each of these three trips is more popular with women than with men.

These findings come from a representative survey conducted by Kuoni and Kuoni Specialists together with the market research institute Marketagent in August 2023 among 1012 Swiss men and women who like to travel. Respondents were asked to comment on a total of 15 - mostly unusual - travel suggestions from the Kuoni Specialists portfolio, which comprises over 100 travel countries.

Preferences for travel types and themes can also be broken down by gender: trips with a focus on nature, culture, wellbeing and luxury are particularly popular with female travellers. On the other hand, road trips are more on the wish list of men.

Trips to see the Northern Lights in the far north are at the top of the wish list for the over-50s, with 67% agreeing.
