Helsinki Airport awarded sustainability certificate

The new terminal at Helsinki Airport has been awarded the prestigious BREEAM sustainability certificate. Finavia was awarded the international BREEAM certificate in recognition of the company's comprehensive sustainability work on the terminal expansion as part of the Helsinki Airport Development Programme.

Finavia's terminal expansion achieved a rating level of "excellent", particularly due to responsible land use and ecology, transport solutions and waste management. The company's responsible choice of materials, energy consumption and welfare efforts also received high ratings in the evaluation.

The Helsinki Airport Development Programme runs from 2013 to 2023 and comprises three major sub-projects. Under the development pogramme, Finavia will invest over €1 billion in a gate area for Schengen passengers, a new terminal extension with departure and arrival halls, and an expansion of the terminal and apron for long-haul flights.

The west and south piers as well as the Aukio Plaza, which are part of the expansion of the long-haul flight area, have already been certified as excellent.
