New concept for underwater restaurant "Under" in Norway
All staff at the underwater restaurant "Under" in Lindesnes, Norway will be laid off by the end of the year. This was confirmed by the Danish star chef Nicolai Ellitsgaard Pedersen, who runs the restaurant. The manager and owner, Stig Ubostad, is planning a new concept for the Michelin-starred restaurant.
Ubostad cited several reasons for the necessary changes. For one, violations of the Working Environment Act had been found in the past by the Norwegian Occupational Health and Safety Authority Arbeidstilsynet. In addition, guests were staying away.
The Under will remain open until 16 December, after which a decision will be made on what to do with the restaurant. In March of next year, the Under is to reopen with a new concept.
The Under restaurant was designed by the renowned Norwegian architecture firm Snøhetta and extends halfway into the sea. It reaches up to five metres below the water surface.
