Helsinki and Oslo are among the best airports in Europe 2023

The international airport organisation ACI has honoured the best airports in Europe. Helsinki Airport came out on top in the 10-25 million passengers category. Oslo was honoured in the 25-40 million passengers category.

The Best Airport Awards are an opportunity to recognize excellence and exceptional efforts across a range of airport activities and for airports of all sizes and profiles.  This year's awards considered important themes such as sustainability, innovation, operational efficiency and resilience.

Helsinki Airport grateful to have shown "sisu"

Helsinki Airport is visibly pleased about the recognition. "I am grateful for the award and proud that Helsinki Airport's success and Finnish know-how are being recognized internationally. I would like to thank Finavia's staff and all the companies operating at the airport and their employees for the work we do together to ensure smooth travel and the future of the airport," says Kimmo Mäki, CEO of Finavia.

Mäki stressed that the pandemic years were weathered so well thanks to a persistent Finnish attitude and a strong will "sisu". A comprehensive cost-cutting program helped the airport get on its feet and maintain its service capacity.

Oslo Airport impresses with innovation, punctuality and sustainability

Oslo Airport stood out thanks to its punctuality, innovation and sustainability work. "We are very pleased with this, because these are three things we work hard on every day," says airport director Ramstad Westby in response. "More than 13,000 people work at Oslo Airport. It is thanks to them and all the staff on board the aircraft that we receive this kind of recognition. There is also a lot of hard work behind it from many people at Avinor, the airport operator."
