Increased passenger traffic at Finnish airports in the first half of the year

In the first half of the year from January to June 2022, Finnish airports recorded around 6.6 million passengers. This is an increase of 520% compared to the previous year. The majority of the increase is due to the recovery in European flights.

Flights to Germany, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom are currently particularly popular. The number of flights to Asia remained rather low due to the Covid 19 restrictions in place until the end of June and Russia's overflight ban.

At Helsinki Airport, the number of passengers increased by 579%. Around 5.5 million people travelled through the airport in the capital, of which travelers on international flights accounted for 85%.

Passenger traffic at regional airports increased by 340% compared to the same period last year. Oulu, Rovaniemi and Kittilä were the most popular destinations in the first half of the year.
