Passenger numbers increase across Sweden’s airports – with regional connections gaining strength and Arlanda surpassing pre-pandemic levels

Sweden’s airport operator Swedavia recorded steady growth in October 2025, welcoming over three million passengers across its ten airports – a 5% increase compared with the same month last year. Both international and domestic routes contributed to the positive trend, highlighting a robust recovery in Sweden’s air connectivity.

Arlanda surpasses 2019 levels

Stockholm Arlanda Airport remains Swedavia’s busiest hub, handling just over two million passengers in October – a 9% year-on-year increase. Notably, Arlanda’s international passenger volume was 2% higher than in October 2019, surpassing pre-pandemic levels for the first time. Domestic travel through Arlanda rose 31%, reaching around 400,000 passengers, while 1.8 million travellers flew internationally. “This is a sign of strength, positive for both Swedish aviation and national connectivity,” said Jonas Abrahamsson, CEO of Swedavia.

Regional airports strengthen sweden’s domestic links

While international travel drives much of the growth, domestic routes are also recovering steadily. The largest increases in domestic passengers were recorded at Luleå Airport and Umeå Airport, followed by Åre Östersund Airport – all crucial for connecting northern Sweden with the rest of the country. Together, these airports reflect the renewed importance of regional accessibility, especially for business and leisure travel within Sweden.

Göteborg Landvetter and Malmö also up

At Göteborg Landvetter Airport, Sweden’s second-largest, 500,000 passengers were recorded in October, up 6% year-on-year. International travel rose by 7%, while domestic traffic dipped slightly by 1%. Malmö Airport also saw continued growth, driven mainly by international routes.

Despite some slower results at Ronneby, Visby, and Bromma Stockholm Airport, the overall national trend remains positive. With both domestic and international air travel increasing, Sweden is reinforcing its role as a well-connected northern hub – linking regional communities, business centers, and international destinations alike.
