Norway's Transport Minister announces expansion and funding for second tube in Oslofjord Tunnel

Norway's Transport Minister Jon-Ivar Nygård announced to politicians from the Labour Party and the Centre Party on 28 August that the government will allocate money for the construction of a second Oslofjord tunnel in the next national budget. The ground-breaking ceremony is planned for 2024. The aim is to widen the E134 from Verpen in Asker to Vassum and the E6 to four lanes by 2030.

Project manager Anne-Grethe Nordahl from the Norwegian Road Administration Statens vegvesen was pleased with the news and emphasised that the project had already been approved in 2015. The Oslofjord Tunnel between Måna and Verpen, the Frogn Tunnel and the Vassum Tunnel are part of the E134 and the Oslofjord Link. The extension of the Oslofjord Tunnel has been planned for a long time.

Until now, there have often been accidents in the Oslofjord Tunnel, which connects Asker and Frogn, which is why it is often closed and long waiting times occur.
