Embracing Nordic Modern Art in a spectacular setting

On the 11th of May 2024, Kunstsilo, a groundbreaking museum, will welcome art enthusiasts and adventurers alike to Kristiansand, South Norway. The grandeur of this cultural gem lies not only in its architectural brilliance but also in its fusion of the Southern Norway Art Museum with the illustrious Tangen Collection of Nordic art.

Within the meticulously restored confines of a grain silo, Kunstsilo breathes life into a historical marvel, a testament to human creativity. Across three floors and spanning 3,300 square meters, this collaborative endeavor by Mestres Wåge Arquitectes and MX_SI Architectural Studio transforms an architectural gem from 1935 into a world-class cultural beacon.

More than a museum, Kunstsilo stands as an innovative cultural hub, inviting visitors to engage with digital art, explore novel concepts, and delve into international exhibitions. The panoramic views of the coastline serve as a backdrop for a diverse range of events, including lectures, concerts, workshops, and gastronomic experiences.

At the core of Kunstsilo lies the Tangen Collection, curated by art patron Nicolai Tangen. This extensive private assembly features over 5,500 works by 300 artists from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. The collection, nurtured by the AKO Foundation, marks a profound contribution to the global art scene, now housed and exhibited at Kunstsilo.

The inaugural exhibition, 'Passions of the North,' promises an immersive exploration of Nordic art, tracing societal dynamics and contrasting rural and urban life through 700 works from the Tangen Collection (1910 - 1990). Each of the 25 rooms presents a unique thematic journey, offering a multifaceted perspective on Modern art's portrayal of the 20th-century flux.

Reidar Fuglestad, CEO of Kunstsilo, expressed delight at the museum's launch, highlighting its blend of art and natural beauty. Nicolai Tangen, Board Member and Founder of the Tangen Collection, hailed Kunstsilo as a transformative venue, inviting visitors to appreciate Nordic modern art in a breathtaking setting.

The opening weekend promises an array of events for families, visitors, and locals, marking Kunstsilo's inauguration as a monumental cultural milestone.
