Viking Line ends strong year with impressive passenger figures

Last year was extremely successful for Viking Line, with almost 5 million passengers travelling on its ships. Especially in the period from June to August. Many bookings were made well in advance for the summer holiday season.

Route overview

The total passenger count for the company in 2023 stood at 4,897,494, a commendable outcome despite reduced capacity compared to the previous year, owing to fewer vessels. Notably, the vessel Amorella concluded its service in October 2022, while Rosella completed its final voyage for the company in January 2023.

Key growth and routes

Viking Grace and Viking Glory experienced significant passenger growth, operating on the Turku–Åland–Stockholm route, tallying 2,123,647 passengers. Viking Line held a 72% market share on this route, benefitting from the popularity of Viking Glory, introduced in 2022, alongside Viking Grace.

Viking Gabriella exclusively served the Helsinki–Åland–Stockholm route and transported 496,844 passengers during the year, with additional daytime voyages between Helsinki and Tallinn alongside Viking Cinderella in the summer, along with various special cruises.

Viking Cinderella operated cruise services between Stockholm and Mariehamn, catering to 534,149 passengers. This vessel also organized special cruises to several Baltic Sea destinations throughout the year.

Rosella, servicing the Mariehamn–Kapellskär route, was sold to a Greek buyer on January 17, 2023, carrying 16,190 passengers in January.

M/S Viking XPRS transported 1,655,548 passengers between the capital cities of Helsinki and Tallinn.

Additionally, 71,116 passengers utilized special cruises and other routes. Cargo units amounted to 125,269, with 563,081 passenger cars transported.
