Visit Norway awards Kirkenes

Visit Norway has awarded the municipality of Kirkenes in north-eastern Norway with the "Sustainable Destination Plaque". Kirkenes is one of 21 destinations that have received Innovation Norway's Sustainable Destination Label since 2013.

The award is based on international standards. The approval process takes between two and three years, and the award must be renewed every three years.

Over the past few years, Kirkenes has developed into an important tourist destination. The town is the terminal for Hurtigruten, and there are also daily flights from Oslo Gardermoen and Tromsø.
