Ivalo Airport receives "Sustainable Travel Finland" label

Ivalo Airport has been awarded the Sustainable Travel Finland label by Visit Finland. This label has also been awarded to Kittilä and Rovaniemi airports.

Jonna Pietilä, Finavia's Vice President responsible for airports in Lapland, says: "The award of the label to Ivalo Airport is a recognition of our active efforts at Finavia to promote more sustainable travel. This year, four northern airports, including Ivalo, will take a step from CO2 neutrality towards net zero emissions."

Finavia's goal is to reduce the CO2 emissions of all its airports to net zero by the end of 2025. This goal will be achieved this year at Ivalo, Kittilä, Rovaniemi and Kuusamo airports. Finavia has taken measures to achieve this, such as switching to renewable engine oil in the airport machinery and using renewable diesel in the vehicles. Fully renewable bioenergy is used in the CHP plants, and renewable fuel oil serves as a backup fuel. The district heating supplied to the airports is also based on bioenergy.

Promoting sustainable travel is a common goal for the entire Lapland region and the travel industry players in the region. Jonna Pietilä emphasizes: "As an airport operator, we want to make our contribution to realizing this goal."
