London Institute for Quality of Life highlights Finland's success in annual Happy City Index 2023

The London Institute for Quality of Life's annual Happy City Index 2023 has highlighted six Finnish cities for their happiness. Helsinki topped the Finnish representation and ranked 11th worldwide. Lappeenranta secured second place in Finland (25th worldwide), followed by Oulu in third place (50th worldwide).

Other Finnish cities in the list are Tampere (51st), Jyväskylä (58th) and Turku (60th). The Happy City Index evaluated 200 cities in five categories: Citizens, Governance, Environment, Economy and Mobility. The aim was to measure the influence of decision-makers on people's happiness.

Finland's consistent top position in the World Happiness Report for the past six years is attributed to high life satisfaction, appreciation of freedom and social support in a stable society. Antti Aumo, Head of Invest in Finland, emphasizes that the well-functioning welfare state forms the basis for a favorable business environment.

Helsinki's recognition is also due to the fact that it is one of the top 30 start-up hubs in Europe. Helsinki is also considered a good place for immigrants. Helsinki's awards also include the title of best city for work-life balance and praise for its technological facilities and overall quality of life. Oulu was praised as the second best place for families with young children and for affordable housing.
