New deployment highlights the company’s strategic flexibility beyond the Baltic Sea

The Estonian shipping company Tallink Grupp has signed a charter agreement with the state-owned Madar Maritime Company. Under the deal, the cruise ferry Romantika will be chartered for nine months starting May 31, 2025, along with her technical crew. The agreement also includes two optional six-month extensions.

“This charter will have a positive impact on our financial results,” said Paavo Nõgene, CEO of Tallink Grupp. “We have been closely monitoring developments on our routes. Proactively chartering vessels that are not currently in service reflects our adaptability in a changing economic environment.”

From the Baltic Sea to new waters

The Romantika, built in 2002 in Finland, was the first cruise ferry commissioned by Tallink and the first vessel designed specifically for an Estonian shipping company. In recent years, it operated on Baltic Sea routes between Helsinki, Stockholm, and Riga.

Tallink has also extended the charter of the Silja Europa in the Netherlands until January 31, 2026, with two further six-month extensions possible. Another vessel, the Galaxy, is likewise chartered and operating in the Netherlands.

These developments demonstrate Tallink Silja Line’s active and flexible fleet strategy, allowing the company to respond to market shifts and seasonal demand while exploring new business opportunities outside its core Baltic operations.
