"Norient Express" to travel from Bergen to Trondheim

Starting September 2025, Norway will offer a new luxury travel experience: the "Norient Express," inspired by the legendary Orient-Express, will be operated by the Swedish rail company SJ Norge. The Norwegian regulatory body, Statens jernbanetilsyn (SJT), has granted approval for this luxury train service. The train will offer an exclusive package trip for affluent customers, without competing with existing travel trains—a requirement for the license.

Unique journey through Norway's mountain landscapes

The journey will commence weekly on Sundays from either Bergen or Trondheim and continue until Thursday. It will traverse the spectacular mountainous regions of the Bergensbanen and Dovrebanen, climbing to over 1000 meters. Passengers will stay in carefully selected hotels organized by De Historiske AS, providing an authentic cultural and historical experience. The train will feature a high-end restaurant, a bar, training rooms, office spaces, and even an observatory.

Details on vehicles still unknown

Details about the specific vehicles to be used are not yet available. However, Sweden still has many old steel carriages that could be refurbished into luxurious vehicles. Previous projects, such as the commercially unsuccessful Blå Tåget between Stockholm and Gothenburg, have demonstrated that older rolling stock can be transformed into highly comfortable trains through modifications.
