Lighthouse hotel in Sweden recognised for long-term sustainable tourism practices

The Swedish lighthouse hotel Pater Noster – A Home on the Horizon has been nominated for Sustainability Step of the Year 2025 (Årets Hållbarhetskliv), an award recognising tourism businesses that embed sustainability at the core of their operations.

Earlier in 2025, Pater Noster was named regional winner for the Gothenburg area in the visitor economy category, securing its place among the national finalists.

Sustainability rooted in place

Located on a remote lighthouse island within a protected marine nature reserve on Sweden’s west coast, Pater Noster operates with a strong focus on environmental, social and economic sustainability. Key measures include low-impact gastronomy using local ingredients, circular use of materials, energy and water efficiency, and local recruitment.

The hotel is also part of Stepping Up Sustainability (Hållbarhetsklivet), led by the West Sweden Tourist Board, supporting the transition toward more sustainable tourism across the region.
