Fast ferry MS Medstraum named Ship of the Year 2022

The battery-powered Norwegian fast ferry MS Medstraum was awarded the "Ship of the Year 2022" prize at the shipbuilding fair in Hamburg. The ferry operates between Stavanger, Byøyene and Hommersåk in Rogaland and belongs to the shipping company Kolumbus AS.

The ferry was designed and built by the shipyard Fjellstrand Verft AS. The battery energy storage system was contributed by Corvus Energy. The catamaran has room for 147 passengers and the crossing takes around 35-40 minutes.

The innovative ferry makes energy-efficient trips and reaches high speeds of up to 23 knots. The battery lasts for one hour at this speed.
