Additional ship connections in Norway without costs

Since last year, some ferry services in Norway have been free of charge. On 16 August, additional free ferry services were introduced. Passengers have the opportunity to travel free of charge by ferry to islands and other municipalities that do not have road access to the mainland.

The government has allocated a sum of NOK 420 million to both provide free ferry travel and reduce fares by 50 per cent compared to the 1 January 2021 prices. This offer was in addition to existing measures to reduce fares for ferry services.
