Even if you don't necessarily associate Scandinavia with a holiday on a sandy beach, the Nordic countries have a lot to offer in terms of coastline and beach adventures. In addition to the countless opportunities to visit the Nordic beaches, e.g. on a rental car tour or during your holiday in your own car, the metropolises often also offer the chance to enjoy the beach during a city trip.

Suitable for all types of travellers and target groups

Read as an insider tip in the travel documents, individual travellers may go to the beach as a personally chosen point of the day to spend several hours there. Families with children enjoy the fact that the little ones can keep themselves busy there. But even as part of an organised coach group tour, a short stop by the sea with a barefoot walk through the sand can be a welcome change.

With one of the longest coastlines in the world, Norway offers beaches across many latitudes - from the cinnamon-brown sand of Kanelstranda beach (kanel is cinnamon in Norwegian) in the south to far beyond the Arctic Circle in the north of the country, where, for example, the beach on the Grøtfjord not far from Tromsö attracts with its wild charm.

Sweden's most beautiful bathing beaches

Sweden offers a wide range of bathing adventures - both at its numerous lakes inland and on the coast. One of the most famous beaches is located in Halland in the Skåne region in the very south of Sweden. Tylösand beach is four kilometres long and attracts visitors with its fine sand, protective dunes and gentle waves. It was recently voted Sweden's most beautiful beach (Swedish source).

A variety of beaches in Finland

From north to south, Finland also has numerous beaches to invite you to take a break by the water. Hietaniemi beach is located right in the centre of Helsinki, in the Töölö district. Once a rubbish tip, it is now one of Finland's most popular beaches, attracting both locals and tourists.
