Mo i Rana in Helgeland area gets a new airport

The Norwegian airport operator Avinor has given the first contracts for the construction of the new airport in Mo i Rana. Construction is scheduled to start in autumn and the airport is expected to be operational in 2025. The new airport will be designed for large SAS or Norwegian aircraft.

The new airport in the industrial town of Mo i Rana is a historic project. It is the first large airport to be built in Norway, following the construction of the airfield in Oslo. Currently, only propeller planes can take off and land at the airport. The runway will be significantly extended so that Mo i Rana can also be approached by large aircraft in the future.

The authority approved public support for the construction in June. At the beginning of July, the financing was approved. The municipalities and companies in the area will bear a significant part of the costs.

The new airport has important significance for traveling and the added value of the region.
