Minor Hotels opens luxury hotel under NH Collection in Helsinki in iconic building

Minor Hotels will make its debut in Finland with the opening of the five-star NH Collection Helsinki Grand Hansa hotel. The international hotel group, known for its presence in 56 countries around the world, is expanding into the Nordic region. The new hotel, developed in partnership with Ylva, is currently under construction and is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2024.

The NH Collection Helsinki Grand Hansa is a unique project that brings together two iconic Helsinki buildings: the Kaleva building, formerly known as Hotel Seurahuone, and the New Student House, which once housed the famous Hansa Hotel. A modern extension is also being added to the site. These buildings are currently undergoing extensive renovation and Ylva is in the final stages of building the new extension.

When it opens next year, the hotel will offer 224 modern guest rooms, a restaurant, a lobby bar, a rooftop bar with a breathtaking 360° view of Helsinki city centre, extensive spa and fitness facilities, and nine meeting and event rooms. The NH Collection is conveniently located on Helsinki's main street, Mannerheimintie, just outside the main railway station. This prime location is 25 minutes by car and 33 minutes by train from the airport, making it an ideal choice for business and leisure travellers looking for a central location in the city.

Dillip Rajakarier, CEO of Minor Hotels and Group CEO of Minor International, said they see significant growth potential in the Nordic market. He highlighted the iconic properties, including the NH Collection Helsinki Grand Hansa, as part of the investment strategy.

Leea Tolvas, CEO of Ylva, stressed the importance of introducing a world-renowned luxury hotel operator to the Finnish market. She pointed to the increasing number of overnight stays in Helsinki, which indicates a growing trend, especially among discerning tourists seeking high-end and luxury experiences.
