Coastal vessel Havila Capella receives Next Generation Ship Award

This year, the ship Havila Capella, which sails the Norwegian mail route, received the award at the Nor-Shipping fair in Lillestrøm during the Ocean Leadership Conference. The award recognises ship projects in Norway that demonstrate the best design innovation and are best suited for the coming decade in terms of energy efficiency, flexibility, use of technology, safety and environmental sustainability.

Havila Capella is an LNG-powered plug-in hybrid ship with the world's largest battery packs specifically designed for passenger ships. By using these batteries, the ship can sail for four hours without making noise or emitting emissions. In addition to the battery packs, the ships have also been equipped to run on biogas and prepared to run on hydrogen or ammonia.

Havila Voyages, owner of the ship, had it designed by the Hav Group and built at the Tersan shipyard in Turkey. Additionally, three identical ships will be in service on the historic coastal route between Bergen and Kirkenes by the end of the year.
