Finnlines enhances capacity and sustainability in Baltic Sea traffic

Finnish shipping company Finnlines has announced a major fleet investment: Three new RoPax vessels (Roll-on/Roll-off + Passenger) have been ordered for the high-traffic route between Finland and Germany. These new vessels aim to significantly improve both transport capacity and environmental performance along the route.

The new RoPax ships are designed for combined freight and passenger transport. They will be purpose-built for the demands of the route connecting Naantali, Finland, with Lübeck-Travemünde, Germany. With a planned length of 250 metres and high cargo capacity, the vessels will meet growing demand in Baltic Sea logistics. In addition to ample freight space, the ships will feature modern cabins, spacious public areas, and contemporary restaurant concepts to enhance the travel experience for passengers.

A key feature of the new ships is their eco-friendly propulsion technology. Finnlines is investing in energy-efficient engines, optimized hull design, and alternative fuels to significantly reduce CO₂ emissions. The project aligns with the company’s long-term sustainability strategy. By modernizing its fleet, Finnlines aims not only to reduce environmental impact but also to optimize logistics between Central Europe and the Nordic region—a major benefit for industry, trade, and tourism.

Strengthening the Finland – Germany connection

The route between Finland and Germany is one of the most vital transport corridors in the Baltic region. With this fleet upgrade, Finnlines secures its market position while reinforcing the Baltic Sea as a high-capacity and sustainable transport area.

By ordering three innovative RoPax ships, Finnlines is actively investing in the future of maritime transport between Finland and Germany. The combination of sustainability, increased capacity, and improved passenger services makes the route more attractive than ever — for freight clients and leisure travelers alike.
