Finnair boosts Nordic network for summer 2026

New route to Alta and increased frequencies to top destinations in Northern Norway and Scandinavia

In its summer 2026 schedule, Finnair is significantly strengthening its Nordic network. Key developments include a brand-new connection to Alta in Northern Norway, additional frequencies to several popular Nordic cities, and an expanded offering within Finnish Lapland.

New summer route to Alta, Northern Norway

For the first time, Finnair will launch a route to the Arctic town of Alta – a destination known for its raw nature, northern lights, and outdoor adventure opportunities. From 29 March to 22 October 2026, Finnair will fly five times weekly via Kittilä to Alta, operated with a 68-seat ATR turboprop aircraft. Alta has also gained popularity as a cruise destination, making it an ideal stop on multi-modal Nordic itineraries.

Increased connections to Tromsø and Kirkenes

Finnair is also expanding its service to Tromsø, operating five weekly flights from Helsinki via Rovaniemi throughout summer 2026 – a route that was previously limited to the winter season. In addition, the Ivalo–Kirkenes connection will increase to five weekly flights, two more than the previous summer. These additions create a dense cross-border flight network between Finnish and Northern Norwegian destinations, ideal for flexible summer travel routes.

More flights to Nordic capitals and summer hotspots

Finnair is also boosting service to key Nordic capitals:

Stockholm and Copenhagen each get seven additional weekly frequencies
Reykjavík gains two more weekly flights

During the peak holiday season from June to early August 2026, Finnair will also serve:

Billund (DK): 8x weekly flights
Visby (SE): 7x weekly flights
Bodø (NO): 6x weekly flights

Additionally, Mariehamn in the Åland Islands will benefit from two extra weekly frequencies.

More capacity for Lapland’s spring ski season

Finnair is also responding to increased demand during the spring ski season with more flights to Lapland:

30 March – 26 April 2026:

Ivalo: 17 weekly flights
Kittilä: 23 weekly flights

27 April – 3 May 2026:

Ivalo: 13 weekly flights
Kittilä: 19 weekly flights
