Finnair puts the first of twelve refurbished Embraer aircraft into service on short-haul routes

Finnair has completed the refurbishment of the first aircraft in its Embraer fleet, aiming to improve passenger comfort on shorter routes. This initiative is part of a broader plan to upgrade all 12 Embraer planes by spring 2026. During the winter seasons of 2024–2025 and 2025–2026, seven and five aircraft, respectively, will undergo transformations.

The Embraer fleet services numerous destinations across Finland and Europe, particularly on shorter routes in Northern and Central Europe, ensuring a seamless travel experience for passengers.

A cohesive design aesthetic

The newly designed cabin incorporates a color palette and ambiance that aligns with Finnair's recently updated wide-body fleet and the new Schengen lounge at Helsinki Airport. Eerika Enne, Head of Inflight Customer Experience, commented, "We aimed to craft a cohesive, fresh, and welcoming travel environment, utilizing dark blue and grey tones complemented by wooden laminate accents—elements consistent with our long-haul aircraft."

Sustainability focus

A significant goal of the cabin renewal is to reduce aircraft weight, which leads to lower fuel consumption and diminished carbon dioxide emissions. Enne highlighted, "Both the Business Class and Economy Class seats are lighter than their predecessors, and the new cabin carpet also utilizes lighter materials. These adjustments aim to cut aircraft weight by approximately 150 kg per plane."

Finnair’s commitment to enhancing passenger comfort and sustainability reflects its dedication to providing an improved travel experience while minimizing environmental impact.
