With Amadeus technology, the Finnish airline Finnair is shaping the future of digital travel

On May 5, 2025, Finnair made aviation history. CEO Turkka Kuusisto completed the world’s first Native Order via Finnair.com, booking a flight from Helsinki to London Heathrow. By doing so, Finnair becomes the first airline globally to transition to this Offer and Order-based retailing model, setting a new benchmark for the entire industry.

This innovation marks a significant technological shift, moving away from outdated systems towards modular and customer-centric solutions.

What is a Native Order?

A Native Order is a next-generation booking standard where all travel-related information – flights, services, preferences, and personal data – is consolidated into a single digital record. This model aligns with IATA’s One Order framework and replaces traditional booking methods like Passenger Name Records (PNRs) and separate e-tickets. The goal is to simplify booking processes, streamline service delivery, and enhance customer interaction.

For this project, Finnair partnered with travel technology provider Amadeus. The airline is the launch customer for Amadeus Nevio, a platform designed to support Offer and Order retailing. “The Native Order consolidates flights, ancillaries, customer preferences, and personal data into one streamlined record,” explains Cyril Tetaz, EVP Airline Solutions at Amadeus. The solution brings the concept of a digital shopping basket to the airline industry for the first time.

For years, Finnair has championed the use of New Distribution Capability (NDC) and invested in direct sales channels. Transitioning to Offers and Orders is a natural progression, enabling the airline to offer customers more tailored service packages.
