Archipelago ferry connections now available with advance reservations
On May 9, 2025, the popular Saariston Rengastie (Archipelago Ring Road) officially opened for the summer season. Until September 14, 2025, visitors can once again explore the stunning island landscapes of Southwest Finland along the well-known routes. Just in time for the season start, the Houtskari–Iniö ferry connection has launched a new online booking system.
The system, provided by Finferries, allows passengers and vehicles to reserve spots up to two weeks in advance of their desired departure date. Tickets are paid for at the time of booking. “Our experience with the reservation system on other routes has been consistently positive. That’s why we wanted to offer the same convenient service to travelers on the Houtskari–Iniö route,” says Håkan Fagerström, CEO of Finferries.
Small Rengastie open with extended season
In addition to the main route, the Pieni Rengastie (Small Ring Road) also opened on May 9. Until September 14, the ferry m/s Östern operates three round trips daily from Nauvo via Seili to Rymättylä-Hanka. In July, an additional evening departure will be added to meet increased demand.
A key update for 2025 is the one-week extension of the operating season compared to last year. This change specifically addresses the needs of international visitors, whose vacation periods often begin later in the summer.
“Extending the season is essential for boosting international tourism in the archipelago,” explains Kristiina Kukkohovi, CEO of Visit Turku Archipelago. She sees this as an important opportunity for local businesses to further develop their services, products, and opening hours.
Archipelago Ring Road: a highlight for active travelers
The main Rengastie covers a route of 250 kilometers, while the smaller circuit measures approximately 120 kilometers. Both routes are ideal for exploring by car, motorhome, motorcycle, or bicycle, offering a combination of natural beauty and authentic Finnish archipelago atmosphere.
