Estonia records strong growth in tourism in the first half of the year

Strong increases in international overnight stays, continuously growing visitor numbers from Germany as well as pioneering innovations in the hotel and experience sector underline Estonia's position as a leading tourist destination. Estonia is characterised by a strong combination of tradition and contemporary progressiveness.

The year 2023 is a good year for Estonia's tourism industry. In the first half of the year, Estonian accommodation recorded more than 2.8 million overnight stays by tourists. The striking 31% increase in foreign overnight stays compared to 2022, as well as the 27% increase in foreign arrivals, strongly underline this positive development. Despite slightly lower arrival figures than in 2019, a clear and continuous upward trend is unmistakable.

Estonia is the trend among Germans

German guests are increasingly discovering Estonia's charms. The 11,221 arrivals in sunny June alone compared to the previous year illustrate the growing interest from Germany in Estonia's Nordic appeal. Arrivals increased by 27% and overnight stays by 63% compared to the previous year.

Innovative hotels as an asset

Since the summer of 2023, Estonia has shone with new hotel openings that offer a variety of experiences. In charming neighbourhoods and historic walls, the past and the modern merge to create a unique ambience. The hotels appeal to both business and leisure travellers and promise an exceptional stay of the highest quality. A new highlight is the Nunne Boutique Hotel. With exclusive rooms and an exquisite restaurant, it offers comfort and uniqueness in the heart of Estonia. Equally impressive is the newly renovated Dunten Hotel, designed in an elegant self-service style and offering an ideal base for exploration. The Oru Hub Hotel, part of the prestigious Accor Handwritten Collection since June 2023, presents an innovative concept. Individually designed rooms seamlessly combine work and leisure. Coworking areas and cosy lounges offer space for productivity and relaxation. The proximity to nature and the beach makes the stay all the more appealing.

Ideal fusion of history and modernity in the experiences

In the summer of 2023, Põltsamaa Fortress, a historical site since 1272, will reopen its doors. The fortress was once a royal residence and later a magnificent rococo palace. Despite fires in the 1940s, it shows Estonia's resilience. Guests can explore the castle tower, the monastery and a castle history exhibition, enjoy the view and experience crafts.

In Haapsalu, the Fra Mare Thalasso Spa Healing Yoga House offers a holistic experience of yoga, healthy eating and healing procedures since early 2023. The versatile hall is suitable for yoga classes and more. Healing yoga, kundalini yoga and yoga therapy packages offer relaxation.

After renovation in 2022, the Niguliste Church will reopen its doors in March 2023. The church museum displays medieval art and the famous painting "Danse Macabre". A new lift provides a 360° view of Tallinn's Old Town.
