Discover Airlines takes over Lufthansa’s summer service to Oulu

New stopover on the Frankfurt–Kittilä route expands Discover Airlines’ Nordic network

German leisure carrier Discover Airlines is expanding its northern network in the summer 2025 schedule: starting in June, the route from Frankfurt to Kittilä will include a stopover in Oulu. With this addition, the Lufthansa Group subsidiary responds to the growing demand for nature-oriented travel in Scandinavia and significantly broadens its Nordics offering.

Between June and the end of September 2025, the Frankfurt–Kittilä route will include a stopover in Oulu (OUL). Flights will be operated on Mondays and Fridays. Until now, Oulu was served by Lufthansa from Munich – Discover Airlines will now take over the route from Frankfurt.

Oulu, located in northwestern Finland on the Gulf of Bothnia, is one of the country’s largest cities. The surrounding region is ideal for outdoor activities, especially during the long, sunny and pleasantly cool summer months, with average temperatures around 20°C.

Scandinavia remains on trend

With Oulu, Discover Airlines expands its existing “Nordics” route portfolio, which already includes Kittilä, Reykjavík, Evenes and Bodø. From the winter 2025/26 schedule, Alta in Northern Norway will be added as a sixth Nordic destination. Flights will depart from Frankfurt and/or Munich, depending on the destination, with some operated year-round.

The growing popularity of Nordic countries as summer travel destinations is reflected in the clear increase in both frequencies and destinations – especially among independent and active travellers seeking nature, tranquility and cooler climates.

By adding Oulu as a summer destination, Discover Airlines is clearly reinforcing its commitment to Northern Europe.
