Lufthansa launches direct flights between Oulu and Munich

From December 2023 Lufthansa will offer direct flights between Oulu and Munich. From 16 December, the German airline will operate the route twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays until the end of March 2024.

The new flight connection is the result of a long-standing cooperation between Oulun Matkailu OY and BusinessOulu. Managing Director of Oulun Matkailu Oy, Yrjötapio Kivisaari, says: "Oulun Matkailu Oy and BusinessOulu worked systematically towards the opening of the route and were involved in the negotiations for a year and a half. Talks were held several times with Lufthansa representatives both in Finland and abroad. Finnavia has also been involved in the negotiations."

The new direct flights are intended to boost winter tourism in the Oulu region. The connection will facilitate cooperation with German tour operators who already offer trips to the Kemi and Rovaniemi regions. German tourists will be offered a variety of winter activities and experiences on the Pohjola route and in the Oulu region. Oulu is considered the gateway to the north and the frozen sea.

German travellers represent the second largest number of foreign tourists in Oulu after Norwegians.
