Denmark's first green flight to take off in 2025

The Danish government has announced that all domestic flights shall be free of fossil fuels by 2030. As early as 2025, a green domestic flight is to be operated for the first time. The realisation of the project is ambitious and technical solutions are not yet fully developed. Synthetic paraffin or electric aircraft are among the feasible options. Neighbouring Sweden is also planning to operate emission-free domestic flights by 2030.

Planned are a variety of green policies

The announcement is the latest in a series of new policy measures aimed at increasing investment in the green hydrogen industry to produce environmentally friendly fuels in the near future. Denmark has set a target to reduce its overall emissions by 70 per cent by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. Due to the steady global warming, Denmark also plans to introduce a new CO2 tax this year.

Sweden is also striving for green aviation

Sweden also plans to turn its domestic flights fossil fuel-free by 2030 and wants to make international flights environmentally friendly by 2045. As of 1 January 2022, different landing fees will be charged at Stockholm Arlanda and Gothenburg Landvetter airports, based on the climate impact of the aircraft.
