Finavia adjusts fees amid rising costs in aviation sector
Finavia, Finland’s airport operator, has announced an increase in airport charges for airlines and other users starting January 2025. This decision comes as Finavia faces mounting financial pressures due to higher depreciation, energy, and material costs.
Efforts to curb aviation business deficit
The rate adjustments aim to counteract the rapidly growing deficit in Finavia's aviation sector, primarily driven by operational cost increases. According to the statement, Finavia has already implemented significant cost-cutting measures, including reductions in staff, to create a more sustainable financial base as air traffic gradually recovers.
Details of the charge increases
Starting in 2025, air traffic charges will rise by an average of 5.7% compared to 2024 rates. Breakdown of specific fee increases include:
- Passenger charges: increased by an average of 5.8%
- Landing charges: raised by 6.7%
- Aircraft parking fees: up by 4.9%
- Security charges for departing passengers: up by 4.9%
These increases follow a previous adjustment made by Finavia in early 2024.
