Finnair turns 100 in 100 days

There are 100 days to go until Finnair's 100th anniversary. To savour the 100 days, the airline has published its 100 most fascinating facts. These include anecdotes from the airline's founding and first flight over the North Pole, for example, or how many million litres of blueberry juice are served each year.

The history of the world's sixth oldest airline still in operation has some memorable firsts to offer. Some of the facts:

• Finnair was originally called Aero.
• Finnair's first flight was to Tallinn, Estonia, in 1924, carrying 162 kilograms of mail.
• It was the first western airline to fly to Moscow in 1956.
• Finnair flew over the North Pole for the first time in 1983.
• Finnair becomes Santa's official airline in 1983.
• In 1998, Finnair was the first airline in Europe to purchase defibrillators.
• In 2023, Finnair teamed up with iconic Finnish shoe and clothing brand Karhu to design an exclusive sneaker for ground and flight staff.
• Finnair pours one million liters of blueberry juice every year, which has become Finnair's trademark on board.
