Starting June 2025, passengers on the Helsinki–Tallinn route can enjoy a unique sauna experience with a sea view

From June 6, 2025, a new highlight awaits travelers aboard the Viking XPRS: the first outdoor sauna on the Baltic Sea. Located on the sun deck (Deck 7, aft), the sauna will be available on every crossing between Helsinki and Tallinn and can accommodate up to six people.

The sauna is pre-heated before the vessel departs, and a private terrace area with loungers offers space to cool down and take in the sea view between sauna sessions.

From April fool’s joke to real innovation

What began as an April Fool’s joke has turned into a full-fledged innovation, thanks to a collaboration with beverage partner Hartwall. Designed in the shape of a Finnish Long Drink can, the “XPRS Original Long Drink Sauna” combines creative design with Finnish tradition. The two-hour sauna experience costs €60 and includes a bucket with six Hartwall Long Drinks.

"New sauna concepts are emerging across Finland — why not bring one to the Baltic Sea? We wanted to create something truly Finnish that also offers a surprise factor,” says Ossi Ruusunen, Beverage Manager at Viking Line.

Booking and amenities

Access to the sauna requires advance reservation, either when booking the cruise or, if available, directly on board. The booking includes:

  • A private changing and shower cabin (usable for up to 2.5 hours until arrival)
  • Rental bathrobes and slippers
  • A VIP area with seating and sun loungers
  • Six cans of Finnish Long Drinks

Appealing to international guests

“A sauna on board is something that will appeal to a wide audience—families, groups of friends, and especially international visitors,” Ruusunen adds. “Saunas are trending globally, and our Tallinn route continues to grow in international traffic. Now our guests can combine two authentic Finnish experiences: a cruise and a sauna.”
