Second ship added to the Svalbard and North Cape lines – MS Vesterålen returns to the classic coastal route

Starting in summer 2026, Hurtigruten will expand its range of Signature Voyages along the Norwegian coast. This move comes in response to growing demand for premium cruise experiences that offer longer port stays, all-inclusive packages, and German-speaking expedition guides.

A key part of the expansion is the deployment of the MS Midnatsol as a second vessel on both the Svalbard and North Cape lines, complementing the MS Trollfjord and MS Finnmarken.

New departures to Svalbard and the North Cape

From summer 2026, the MS Midnatsol will operate weekly on alternating sailings with the MS Trollfjord from Bergen to Svalbard. During the winter season, it will join the MS Finnmarken (formerly Otto Sverdrup) to serve the North Cape line from Hamburg, also on a weekly alternating basis.

A Saturday departure will be introduced as a fixed schedule feature. Prior to the season launch, the MS Midnatsol will undergo a comprehensive refurbishment in spring 2026 to meet the expectations of Signature Voyage guests.

MS Vesterålen Returns to the Classic Coastal Route

In parallel, Hurtigruten has announced the return of the MS Vesterålen to the classic postal route between Bergen and Kirkenes. The ship, now refurbished, will once again sail the historic line that has long been the backbone of Norwegian coastal shipping.

With this fleet restructuring, Hurtigruten is able to expand its Signature offering while continuing the traditional coastal voyage with reliable service and familiar charm.
