Dertour's latest winter program reflects broader changes in how travelers want to explore destinations

Germany's tour operator Dertour has expanded its Winter 2026/27 program with more small-group tours, slow travel itineraries, solo travel options and immersive nature experiences. While these additions are specific to one operator, they also reflect wider trends shaping the European travel market.

Across more than 1,400 round trips, the company is placing greater emphasis on flexibility, meaningful experiences and destinations that encourage travelers to spend more time exploring.

Growing interest in the Nordic region

Northern Europe is one of the regions seeing significant expansion. New itineraries include Northern Lights experiences, active holidays and slow travel products, while destinations such as Arctic Lakeland, Kuusamo and Harstad are gaining visibility within the program.

Many departures are offered in small groups with guaranteed operation, highlighting continued demand for more personal travel experiences.

Experiences over standard holidays

The program also expands its range of wellness retreats, culinary journeys, wildlife experiences and accommodation such as glass igloos. At the same time, solo travel continues to grow, with new itineraries designed specifically for independent travelers who also value shared experiences.

Rather than focusing solely on destinations, the program reflects a wider shift towards experience-led travel, where flexibility, local immersion and smaller groups are becoming increasingly important.

Why we are watching this

Large tour operators often provide an early indication of changing consumer demand. The latest winter program highlights several travel trends that are likely to influence product development and destination marketing across the Nordic region in the coming years.
