Scandlines prepares transport for the emission-free ferry

Preparations for the deployment of Scandlines' new emission-free cargo ferry in 2024 are in full swing. Construction work on the ferry, with the working title "PR24", is proceeding according to plan and it will be launched for the first time in the fourth quarter.

The ferry terminals in Puttgarden and Rødby are also being prepared for the "PR24", including a new ramp for the upper vehicle deck in Rødby.

The ferry will be equipped with the world's largest battery system of 10 MWh, which can be charged in just 17 minutes. It will be powered exclusively by green electricity, and investments have been made in power cables and transformer stations to ensure the energy supply. In addition, investments are being made in a cable route and charging station in Puttgarden to reduce the charging time to just 12 minutes from 2025. This will enable the ferry to cover the distance of 18.5 km between Puttgarden and Rødby in 45 minutes without direct emissions.
